Social Media

As a whole, the way society receives information has come a long way since the “newspaper days”. Information now-a-days is accessible to a person’s fingertips at any moment with new and prevalent social medias and technologies. Personally, I feel that in order to gain an in-depth description of news going on in the world, the best source of information comes from news channels. These news stations, whether they are CBS, ABC, NBC (or Fox News if you are desperate) or many other stations, provide all the details that concerned residents look for. On the other side of the coin however, I feel for more frivolous matters, twitter and other forms of social media are the way to go. These give people information of a certain celebrity or popular topic in a more casual sense. Some information sources; via web or television, are at times a little unreliable based on bias due to personal opinions, clouding the overall news. I focus primarily on news involving sports, politics, or economic matters in order to keep in touch with the world I live in. The best sources to me are the ones that are unbiased as well as more viewer friendly; being more personal than someone reading a teleprompter. My viewpoint on having technology (smart phones, computers, social media, etc) is that it is growing into a dependency for many people; but for just reason. Technology is allowing news to be sent easier for people on the go in addition to being more of a convenient method then grabbing a newspaper. Modern technology in my eyes creates a more knowledgeable and social culture as compared to the old fashioned way of obtaining news.

Introduction

My name is Adam Rocca and I’m a senior at Gahanna Lincoln High school. I am only seventeen, but have already seemed to make strong strides in my future. I am a member of Gahanna’s prestigious DECA program; a marketing education competition that competes across the country with comprised business plans for companies. I plan on attending Michigan State University in the fall of 2013 majoring in marketing and minoring in finance or accounting. I currently am working at Pizza Hut for the past 3 months, and I have previously worked at Graeter’s Ice Cream for a year and a half. I plan on bettering my writing and vocabulary over the next four months, and I hope Senior Composition will help me do so.
